This four-day course will provide you with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to train others in the moving and handling of people and in the conducting of manual handling risk assessments. This course has been updated to include guidance from the HOP 7, so features the most up to date content.
Train the Trainer Refresher
For those that have completed a train the trainer courses with us or with another supplier we can also provide updated Key Trainer Refresher training. This shorter 2 day course provides an update to legislation and current best practice as well as looking at advancements in technology and the law.
Who is this course Intended for?
This course is for those with a responsibility for health and safety and welfare of staff and clients with regards to the moving and handling of people, and the training of other staff to carry out moving and handling tasks.
Assessment and Certification
To pass the course each student will be required to complete the following:
1. Each student will complete 4 case studies and risk assessment profiles and completions, which are carried out in teams.
2. Take a short exam, that ensures that participants have retained information taught during the course. This exam is what is often referred to as “Open book” with students able to use all training materials and course notes to complete.
3. Pass an assessment of practical skills, hoisting, in bed manoeuvres, sit to stand, falls recovery, use of slide sheets, use of other small handling aids.
4. Complete a 15 minute mini teach. Each student will be asked to prepare a small session and present it to the class. This step is essential as it proves that the student is able to teach.
Elevate Handling are a CPD certified Company, this course is equivalent to 30 hours of training.
By the end of the course, you will be able to demonstrate the following skills and knowledge.
1. Manual Handling Theory and legislation
2. Risk assessments, use of AARR and TILEO
3. Ergonomics, how good ergonomics and handling relate to care.
4. Practical skills, stand to sit, assisted walking, and transfer from bed to chair.
5. Handling a patient in bed, safe use of beds, slide sheets, and turning.
6. Hoisting - application of LOLER HSE guidance on hoists
7. Presentation and teaching techniques.
Does the support end once training has been complete?
For our train the trainer students, we recommend a refresher every 2 years. This can be classroom or competency led. Inside this period, you will have access to ask questions and gain support from our trainers.
